General Information about UAE

Abu Dhabi is the capital and the second most populous city of the United Arab Emirates (the most populous being Dubai), and also capital of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the UAE's seven emirates. Abu Dhabi lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf from the central western coast. The city proper had a population of 1.5 million in 2014.

Abu Dhabi houses federal government offices, is the seat of the United Arab Emirates Government, home to the Abu Dhabi Emiri Family and the President of the UAE, who is from this family. Abu Dhabi's rapid development and urbanization, coupled with the relatively high average income of its population, has transformed the city into a large and advanced metropolis. Today the city is the country's center of political and industrial activities, and a major cultural and commercial centre, due to its position as the capital. Abu Dhabi accounts for about two-thirds of the roughly $400-billion United Arab Emirates economy.

Abu Dhabi is the fourth most expensive city for expatriate employees in the region, and in 2014 was the 68th most expensive big city in the world.

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was elected as second President of the United Arab Emirates , the state that was announced on the 2nd of December 1971 . He is also the sixteenth ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi , the largest of the seven emirates forming the Union .
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan came to be president of the federal state , and became the ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi on the 3rd of November 2004 , succeeding to his father , Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan , who passed away on the 2nd of November 2004.

His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan

                          1918 – 2004

Sheikh Zayed was born in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in 1918 at al-Hosn Palace to Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed, the Ruler of Abu Dhabi from 1922-1926. The youngest of Sheikh Sultan's four sons, he was named after his famous grandfather, known as ‘Zayed the Great’, the Ruler of the Emirate from 1885-1909.

Sheikh Zayed had a strong passion for anything related to authentic Arab traditions such as falconry, camel and Arabian horse riding and shooting. His character and charisma was molded in his early youth while living in al-Ain. It was from his experiences there that he developed his leadership qualities.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid

Al Maktoum

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum was born on July 15, 1949. He is the third of four sons of His Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum who also include Their Highnesses Sheikh Maktoum, Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Ahmed.

On the 4th of January 2006, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum became the Ruler of Dubai following the death of his brother Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. On 5 January, 2006, members of the UAE Supreme Council elected His Highness Sheikh Mohammed as the Vice President of the UAE.

On February 11, 2006, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan nominated Sheikh Mohammed as the UAE Prime Minister. Sheikh Mohammed and the members of his Cabinet took their oaths before Sheikh Khalifa at Al Bateen Palace in Abu Dhabi.
